Frequently Asked Questions

[ TOONZONE-INDEX ]

Why should I upload my cartoons?

In order for your cartooning to be successful, it has to be seen. Naturally you want to promote your cartooning in every way you can. The ToonZone is here to help you build a bigger audience for your work. Think of it as a clever business card, with your email and web site address so anyone can immediately click through to your own site. And you can include a promotional caption with your uploads telling everyone more about your cartooning.

How do I upload stuff here?

When you click the "Upload a Cartoon" button at the top of the ToonZone Index page, you'll see an Upload Agreement. By agreeing to this lengthy legalese, you are giving the Internet Cartoons Forum permission to publish your uploaded files on the ToonZone pages. When you click the "I agree" button, the next page you see is an Upload Description form, where you describe what you are going to upload. Fill this form out as completely as possible, and click the "Submit Form" button. Finally, you get to the page where you can actually upload something. Use the "Browse" button to locate the file you are going to upload. Then click the "Upload" button, and wait for the file to be copied to the Internet Cartoons Forum. Once the upload is completed, you'll see it in the Directory list on this page and can look at it to be sure it was transmitted completely.

Can I upload more than one file?

Sure! But please upload only one file at a time. If you want to upload several files, just return to the ToonZone Index Page and click the "Upload a Cartoon" button again. Be sure to fill out a Description Form for every file you upload. Files without a description will not be published on the ToonZone pages.

Because the ToonZone gets lots of uploads, only one cartoon per person per month will be published here. You can upload several, but it will take several months for them all to appear here.

What kinds of things can be uploaded here?

This is the "Internet Cartoons Forum," so be sure it has something to do with cartoons! (This includes comics, comic pages, comic strips, animation, cartoon characters, gag cartoons, stories, etc.) Cartooning is a broad field, but if you upload your recipe for banana bread, or a joke you just read in an email, or your latest engineering blueprints for an ion-powered light-speed rocket, they will most likely not be published on the ToonZone pages.

What file formats can be uploaded here?

The ToonZone is accepting only JPG- and GIF-format images, GIF- and MOV-format animations, AU- and WAV- sound files, and Shockwave/Flash animations. Be sure your file names end with the appropriate extensions identifying the file format.

Please do not upload any compressed or specialized or proprietary formats (such as .ZIP, .SIT, .EXE, .HQX, .APP, .BIN, .PDF, .PS, .SEA, .UUE, .TIF, .EPS, .DOC, .PHO, .PSH, .WKS, .MSW, etc.)

What shouldn't be uploaded here?

Your wholly owned images, animation, music and stories are invited. If it was created entirely by you, you can upload it here.

But if you incorporate characters into your stories that are created and owned by another person or company (ie: Disney, Warner Bros., Hanna Barbera, etc.) they are not permited, since you are not the owner of such works. For the same reason, video captures of TV cartoons are not permitted, since those are not your own creations and to claim them as your own is a violation of the owner's copyright.

Internet Cartoons Forum does not allow any works that are unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable. Sexually explicit works, chain letters or pyramid schemes, or other works which are deemed by the Internet Cartoons Forum to be offensive will not be permitted or published. This site is rated for general use by the RSAC Internet rating service, and cannot contain such works not suitable for a general audience.

Does the Upload Agreement mean I no longer own the copyright to my work?

The Upload Agreement is not a transfer of copyright ownership. You are the owner and copyright holder of everything you create. The Upload Agreement gives the Internet Cartoons Forum permission to publish your work on the ToonZone pages. In other words, you grant a non-exlusive license to the Internet Cartoons Forum to show your work.

Can I take and use any of the cartoons in the ToonZone?

These pages are provided for your viewing entertainment, encouragement, and inspiration. All cartoons and other works that appear on the ToonZone pages are owned by their respective creators. The creators are credited at the bottom of each page (along with an email address and Web address, if provided.) If you wish to use these works for any other purpose beyond your own personal entertainment, you are encouraged to contact the creator and negotiate usage and compensation.

I wasn't able to upload my cartoon; what should I do?

Check your file names. Because your cartoon is being transmitted over the Internet, some special characters cannot be used in file names. No spaces. No slash or backslash. No"<," ">," or "&." Try to limit your file names to the conventional "eight-dot-three" file name plus extension.
