Privacy Statement for the Internet Cartoons Forum
The Internet Cartoons Forum (ICF) is an online business and entertainment web site seeking to promote knowledge about the art and business of cartooning and improve the market for amateur and professional cartoonists. This web site is owned and operated by Oakley Home Pictures and Peter Oakley, also known as "Tooner." In concert with other cartoonists featured at this site we form a non-exclusive association intended to increase the value of our work in the marketplace. More generally our membership benefits from increased exposure for the art of cartooning and the individual cartoonists whose web sites we link to and review.
We have created this privacy statement in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to the privacy of our membership. This statement explains the information gathering and dissemination practices of this web site -- the Internet Cartoons Forum.
The Kinds of Information We Gather
ICF uses aggregate server log data to track historical trends and monitor and manage increases in site usage. ICF is interested in knowing where users come from to arrive at our web site, what browsers and computer platforms visitors are using, and how quickly our web pages are delivered when requested. This helps ICF administer the web site and provide the best possible experience for its users. In rare instances we may use an individual's IP address to help diagnose and solve problems with our ICF server, the "ToonTalk" message board, the "Cartoon Bar" graphical chat environment, or other interactive areas of the ICF web site.
We may disclose to third parties certain aggregate information contained in our members' registration applications, but we will not disclose your name, address, email address or telephone number without your prior written consent, except as required by law.
The ICF membership registration form requires users to provide contact information (such as name and email address) and unique identifiers (such as a preferred username or password.) Users may opt-out of membership at any time. Having done so, former members will no longer receive our periodic email newsletter (known as "The Irregular Chooker") and will no longer have access to members-only areas of this web site (such as the Archives or Bulletins). However a large portion of the ICF web site will always remain available to the general public without requiring membership. For further details on discontinuing membership, see the Choice/Opt-Out section below.
Unique usernames are used to verify your identity when you log in to members-only areas of the ICF web site. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your membership password and other access keys granted by membership here. You are responsible for all uses of your account, whether or not actually or expressly authorized by you.
We request your address so we can send you additional member benefits (such as ICF t-shirts, mugs, and caps.)
Our online membership survey requests demographic information (such as level of education, job title, approximate age and income); this information is supplemental to membership and is not required. It is intended to give us a better understanding of the various groups of users this site serves.
ICF adheres to COPPA U.S. federal laws governing use of this site by children. The ICF web site is intended for mature teenagers and adults. Children (under age 13) are advised to seek parental consent and guidance in the use of this web site, and may not become members.
The ICF web site contains many links to other cartoon-related web sites. ICF is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of any of these other web sites, and advises all users to refer to the privacy policies at those sites to understand how personal information may be used there.
This site makes chat rooms and message board discussions, available to its users. Members are authorized to post new discussion threads and enter members-only chat rooms. Please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose personal information about yourself.
This web site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. We use a MacOS server platform and WebSTAR server software, providing the most secure web site available in the industry. Our server resides in a locked climate-controlled co-location facility and is secured in an eathquake-hardened rack with continuous generator backup. Database information is periodically backed up and stored on optical media in a secure storage unit. These measures ensure that the information you provide through the ICF web site remains private and secure.
Our site provides members the opportunity to opt-out of receiving communications from us at any time. We do not exchange, give or sell any personal member information (names, addresses or email lists) to any other organizations or individuals. You will not receive any unsolicited mail from other businesses as a result of your membership here.
ICF gives members the following options for discontinuing their membership and removing their personal information from our membership database:
