Thomas Schumacher, president of Walt Disney Feature Animation, has announced the promotion of Phil Lofaro to the position of senior vice president of production for Disney's Feature Animation division.

Lofaro joined Walt Disney Feature Animation in 1994 as associate producer of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, a feature animation released in 1996. Following that assignment, he served briefly as the division's director of production before being promoted to vice president in 1997.

Lofaro was born and raised in upstate New York, and graduated from New York University's film school in 1981. He subsequently launched his professional career in Manhattan, working on a variety of freelance commercial assignments over the next six years. From 1988-94, Lofaro was based in San Francisco, where he produced commercials and industrial films. During that time, he served a two-year stint with Colossal Pictures. He began his association with Disney when he worked as production manager with director Henry Selick on Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, in 1993.

In his new role as senior vice president, Lofaro will continue to oversee all aspects of production for the studio's animated features and shorts. He will report directly to Schumacher.
